BIOGRAPHY
Ray was a rover and although only small , he was a courageous player who read the play very well . His highest individual goal tally was 5 against Footscray in Round 2 of 1958 . Ray played as an Amateur and played in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics Australian Football demonstration game . Ray played for the AFL/VFA team against the VAFA ( Amateurs ) the game being won by the VAFA . Because the Olympics was strictly for amateur athletes , only footballers who were amateurs were eligible for selection for the VFL/VFA team . In 1959/60 he won the Club Champion award . Ray also played cricket with University between 1953 and 1956 where he batted 13 times and scored 190 runs with a highest score of 74 .
