BIOGRAPHY
Allan was a well-built centre-half-forward. He looked like developing into a champion until he was struck down with continual knee injuries which eventually forced him to retire from VFL football altogether. He had to endure three knee reconstructions during his career. He was a strong mark, good kick and moved well when the ball was on the ground. He won Richmond’s Best First Year Player award in 1975. In Round 1 of 1978 he kicked 7 goals on champion Carlton full back Geoff SOUTHBY in an outstanding performance. He scored 5 goals or more three times at Richmond.
He transferred to Collingwood in 1979, where he was a member of their Grand Final side that year. His football ability was held in high regard by Tom HAFEY and this influenced his move to Collingwood. Allan left Collingwood at the end of 1983 and played one season with Footscray, in 1984. Away from football he was also a fine local cricketer who played in the VJCA Competition. He is a plumber. Allan’s father, Arthur played 125 games with Footscray between 1951 and 1960 and was a member of their 1954 Premiership side. His grandfather ”Dolly” AKED, played 108 games with Footscray between 1927 and 1934.
