BIOGRAPHY

article highlights the challenging background of Bigoa Nyuon (nickname “ Biggie “ ) .
Born in Nairobi , Nyuon spent the first few years of his life living in a refugee camp, fleeing the civil war in South Sudan , where his father was killed in battle. The family of eight was split between refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya before they were finally accepted as migrants to Australia and settled in south-east Melbourne in 2005. ‘
Bigoa played junior football for Rowville and graduated to Dandenong Stingrays U/18 team in the NAB Cup and was a member
of St Kilda’s Next Generation Academy. Bigoa joined Richmond with Draft selection pick 54 in the 2019 AFL National Draft. Biggie “played in the VFL for the next two seasons which were severely interrupted by the Covid pandemic which affected the development of all players in the VFL and lower grades.
“ Biggie “ was delisted by Richmond at the end of the 2021 season , but was drafted back by Richmond with pick 7 in the 2022 AFL
Rookie Draft. “ Biggie “ made his Senior Team debut on 14 th May 2022 against Hawthorn as a tall defender .
