BIOGRAPHY
Brad Ottens is the son of Dean Ottens a former ruckman who played for Sturt and was a South Australian representative player. Brad played football for Glenelg in the SANFL before being drafted by Richmond with pick 2 in the 1997 AFL National Draft. Brad, a ruckman /forward played his first senior game with Richmond in Round 1, 1998 against Essendon. Brad’s career developed gradually , first establishing himself as a regular member of the Tigers senior team and then reaching the level that made him one of the most important players in the team. Brad was a key player in the Tigers 2001 finals campaign that finished with a Preliminary final loss against the Brisbane Lions. Brad kicked 46 goals in 2001 and was selected in the All Australian team . Brad also finished 5th in the Tigers Best and Fairest in 2001 and 2002. Richmond fans were disappointed when at the end of the 2004 season Brad sought a trade to Geelong , which was agreed between the clubs and Brad was traded to Geelong in exchange for Geelong’s picks 12 and 16 in the 2004 AFL Draft . Richmond used pick 12 to draft Danny Meyer and pick 16 to draft Adam Pattison. Brad Ottens went on to become a three time Premiership player with Geelong and was an important player in their Premiership successes.
