BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Jackson attended Carey Grammar and played with Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup. Daniel was drafted by Richmond from Oakleigh Chargers with pick 53 in the 2003 AFL National Draft . Daniel made his senior debut with the Richmond in Round 16, 2004 against St Kilda. Daniel’s career developed gradually as he found it difficult to secure a regular place in the Richmond senior team. Seasons 2004 (6 games), 2005 ( 10 games) and 2006 ( 5 games ) provided modest returns in terms of senior games. Daniel played 15 games in 2007. Daniel had started his career as a defender but moving into the midfield which suited his attributes of a strong build, toughness, love of the contest and a team oriented attitude to his football. Daniel had some “rough edges” which brought him to the attention of the tribunal and while you cant help your team as a player sitting in the stands , Daniel ‘s ill-discipline may have assisted him to sharpen his focus on how to improve his play to help his team. Daniel became a very important part of the midfield group with his strength and determination to the fore, either as a free-running midfielder or a run with tagger of star opposition players which he became very successful with. Daniel was elevated to the club’s leadership group in 2009 and continued that role till he retired in 2004. Daniel started to be recognized more internally , finishing 2nd in the 2009 Best and Fairest , 10th in 2010 and winning the 2013 Best and Fairest , the Jack Dyer Medal . Daniel was a regular senior player
who played a prominent role in driving the Tigers to a finals appearance in 2013 resulting unfortunately in a loss to Carlton.
Daniel retired before the finals series in 2014 citing that injuries had taken their toll and he could no longer perform to the AFL level. Daniel , despite his typical self-effacement and his downplaying his contribution, Daniel had a fine career with the Tigers admired by coaches , teammates , staff and fans . Daniel was an active delegate and Board Member of the AFL players
association. He is extremely smart and has a passion for leadership development and team building . He also is ever ready to join and promote causes that help people to better times.
