BIOGRAPHY
Des was a rover and forward-pocket. He originally played football with Sale before moving to Frankston. He then spent a season and a half with South Melbourne, before crossing to Richmond in 1942.
After leaving Richmond he coached in the country before returning to Melbourne to coach the juniors at Oakleigh Districts. During his time there, he tutored several senior VFL and VFA players, and later became involved with the Richmond Former Players and Officials where he served as President for many years. His work was rewarded with Life Membership in 1983.
He was a fine all-round sportsman who also won the Gippsland Bantamweight Boxing Title, in 1933, as well as the Gippsland 25-mile cycling race. He served in the A.I.F during the Second World War where he saw active service in New Guinea. Des died in 1986.
