Fred was a half-back and full-back. Recruited from Heidelberg his VFL career was cut short due to injuries. He was given the honour of being the first Richmond player to wear Jack Dyer’s famous number 17 jumper, after Jack had retired.
After receiving injuries from outside of football, Clarke relinquished the guernsey number
He now lives in Ringwood and is the father of Neil Clarke, who played 135 games with Essendon between 1977 and 1987. Neil also played in their 1984 and 1985 Premiership sides, as well as representing Victoria.
