BIOGRAPHY
Gary was a lightly-built, talented ruckman who was a fine kick. In his first VFL season, 1961, he was nominated as one of the recruits of the year. For his era, he was exceptionally tall and with this advantage he was hard to beat at centre bounces and around the ground. He was a member of Richmond’s only night Premiership side in 1962. He spent five seasons with Richmond, before crossing to South Melbourne for one year in 1965. He then moved to Wodonga in the highly competitive Ovens and Murray League. He spent 13 seasons with Wodonga and established himself as one of the best players of his era. In 1969, he won the “Morris Medal” as the competition’s Best and Fairest.
