BIOGRAPHY
Gerald was a half-forward-flanker who was recruited from a University Team. He was a clever player who excelled at baulking his way out of trouble. He injured his knee in the 1920 semi-final and missed his chance to play in Richmond’s first Premiership team. He then missed the 1921 and 1922 seasons before looking set to return in 1923; however, bad luck struck again when he injured his knee in the final practice match and subsequently retired. Gerald was the brother of Bob Rush who played 146 games for Collingwood between 1899 and 1908 and Bryan Rush who played 17 games for Collingwood in 1913 and 1914. Two other brothers, Kevin and Leo, also played for Richmond.
