BIOGRAPHY
Jack played in defence for most of his career, although he did start out as a full-forward. He originally played in the Industrial League before going to Essendon via South Melbourne Seconds and Preston. In his debut game for Essendon in Round 8 of 1936 against Hawthorn he kicked 5 goals as a full-forward. He left Essendon shortly after due to a dispute. Nicknamed “Storky”, he was a fine mark and long kick. He made his debut with Richmond in Round 4 of 1937 and went on to play in 68 consecutive games. He was a member of the 1940 Grand Final side and was voted Richmond’s best player in the 1939 semi-final against St.Kilda. He served in the Army during the Second World War and then played with North Melbourne after completing his Army Service. He died in 1974. His brother, Tom, played one game for South Melbourne in 1945, five for North Melbourne in 1942, 1944 and 1945 and four for Collingwood in 1943. Another brother, Len, played 37 games with South Melbourne from 1945 until 1950 and 102 games with Hawthorn between 1951 and 1957.
