Biography:
Hutchinson was a goal kicking machine.
In his 70 known games for Richmond VFA from 1904-1907, he kicked 207 known goals, at an average of 2.9 per game.
His 55 goals in 1906 was a club record until it was surpassed the following year (in 1907) by Hutchinson himself when he kicked 67 goals. That record then stood until Jack Titus' 69 goals in 1939.
(Hutchinson's 45 goals in the 1905 premiership season placed him second on the club's goalkicking by 1 goal behind Dick Knell)

Prior to coming to Richmond he played four seasons with Port Melbourne (1899-1902) where he booted 102 goals in 103 games. After his tenure at Richmond he joined Footscray in the VFA from 1908-1909, and then returned to Port Melbourne from 1910-1912 where he booted 103 goals.

A 1922 article in the Richmond Guardian by historian C.C.Mullen lists Hutchinson with 542 goals during his entire playing career.
