BIOGRAPHY
Jake King originally played for North Heidelberg in the Diamond Valley league before moving to Coburg , the Richmond Affiliate VFLClub . Jake was equal Best and Fairest at Coburg in 2006 and Richmond drafted him with pick 25 overall in the 2007 AFL Rookie
Draft. Jake and Cameron Howat were temporarily elevated to the senior list in May 2007 when Mark Coughlan and Carl Peterson were placed on the long term injury list. Jake played his first senior game with Richmond in Round 4, 2007 against the Western Bulldogs. Jake was added to Richmond’s senior list before the 2008 season. Jake was a small, fast, explosive forward recognized for his toughness . Jake won the 2007 AFL Grand Final sprint. Jake was captain of the senior team for two games in 2011 a demonstration of the important leadership role that Jake played in the club. Jake was called the “ push-up King “ the name going back to a pre-season camp run by the Police Special Operations Group. With his team needing 250 push- ups to win one of the camp’s competitions Jake breezed through the challenge without a concern. Jake played at Coburg when not selected in the senior team.. Being an Affiliate team Coburg provided the listed Richmond players not playing in the senior team a game in
the VFL competition . “Coburg only” players would make up the rest of the team on each weekend . To acknowledge the respect that Jake had at Coburg a Trophy for the Best Richmond listed player in each season was called the Jake King Trophy. Jake played with courage, aggression and plenty of skill and was the ultimate team man. Jake played 107 games with Richmond from 2007 to 2014 including the Elimination Final loss to Carlton in 2013 and was 10 th in the seniors Best and Fairest in 2007 and 9th in 2010. Jake retired from AFL football at the end of 2014.
