BIOGRAPHY
Jeff was a ruckman, centre-half-forward and centre-half-back. He was a strong player who used his weight to advantage. He originally started his football career with Maldon, then spent one season with Castlemaine before being recruited by South Melbourne. Between 1951 and 1954, he played a total of 41 games with South Melbourne, Richmond and Fitzroy, before moving to Tasmania. He then played with Cornwall which later became East Launceston, for six seasons. He also played seven games for the Tasmanian State team.
Away from football, he boxed professionally. A stylish heavyweight, he was a tough competitor, and in 1959 he fought Alan Williams for the heavyweight championship of Australia. This fight was Williams’ seventh title defence; however, the bout was declared a no contest after four of the scheduled 15 rounds. Since then, Jeff has worked as a boxing promoter recently looking after the interests of Jimmy Thunder. He also worked in the hotel industry and now lives in Sydney.
