BIOGRAPHY
James was a follower and defender. The main features of his game were his strong marking and excellent judgement. He was recruited from Geelong and spent one season at Richmond due to Geelong not fielding any sides as a results of World War One. He returned to Geelong in 1917 and captained the side in 1918 and 1919. James was the son of Dan KEARNEY who represented Geelong in the VFA, prior to the formation of the VFL. His own son, Dan Junior, played three games for Geelong in 1941 and three games for North Melbourne in 1941.
