BIOGRAPHY
James was a follower and centre-half-back. Recruited from Beverleys he was a member of Richmond's 1924 Finals team as well as playing in two VFL Representative sides. After four seasons with Richmond he crossed to Prahran where he ran third in the 1926 "Recorder Cup" count for Best and Fairest in the VFA. He rejoined Richmond during the 1927 season and later crossed to Oakleigh where he was a member of their 1930 and 1931 Premiership sides. After retiring from football he became a successful sprint trainer with three of his charges going on to win the Stawell Gift. James also served as a trainer with both Fitzroy and South Melbourne.
