BIOGRAPHY
Kane Johnson played originally with Ringwood and then moved to Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup. Kane was a Tigers supporter growing up and was drafted by the Adelaide Crows with pick 27 overall in the 1995 AFL National Draft. He became a dual Premiership player with Adelaide in 1997 and 1998 and was selected in Adelaide’s Team of the Decade. After an outstanding period with Adelaide Kane at the end of 2001 asked to be released back to Victoria and at the end of 2002 Adelaide agreed . Kane was traded to Richmond in a complex exchange of draft picks and Jason Torney. Kane was an immediate star with Richmond with his skills , determination and team oriented play and provided strong leadership in all his time at Richmond with 116 games from 2003 to 2008 . Kane was captain of Richmond from 2005 – 2008 and won the 2006 Best and Fairest , the Jack Dyer Medal. Kane stepped down from captain at the end of 2008 , with Chris Newman taking over the captaincy. Kane retired from AFL football on 9th of June 2009.
