BIOGRAPHY
Kane Pettifer originally from Kyabram Junior Football Club also played with Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup, and from there was selected in the Vic Country team in the 2000 U/18 National Championships where he won the Larke Medal , awarded to the Best player of Division 1 U/18 National Championships. The Larke Medal honours a NSW junior player Michael Larke who was killed in a bus crash while returning to Sydney with the Sydney squad from a NSW Teal cup trial match in Wagga Wagga.
Kane was drafted by Richmond with pick 9 overall in the 2000 AFL National Draft. Recruited as a high flying forward Kane played his first senior game with Richmond in Round 12, 2001 against Sydney. Kane played 7 games in 2001 and 10 games in in each of the next three seasons. Kane wore Guernsey number 8 and before the 2005 season changed to number 15 to allow Tom Roach who wore number 22 in his first season to change to number 8 the same as his father Michael , a former champion full forward wore. Superstitious or not Kane in his new number 15 guernsey played every senior game in 2005, 2006 and 2007 , finishing second in the 2006 goal kicking behind Matthew Richardson and finishing 5th in the 2006 club Best and Fairest and 6 th in the 2007 club Best and Fairest. In 2006 Kane was nominated on 3 consecutive occasions for AFL Mark of the year, highlighting his high flying capability. Kane played 6 games in 2008 interrupting a run of 69 consecutive senior games with a 1 week suspension for striking Nick Maxwell in Round 3, 2008 against Collingwood . Kane returned to the senior side but he sustained a serious knee injury requiring a full reconstruction which finished his 2008 season and impacted on his 2009 season when he played 4 games. Kane playing for Richmond’s VFL Affiliate, Coburg sustained a split knee cap which finished his 2009 season. Kane also sadly lost his father who was killed in a car crash in August 2009. Kane was delisted by Richmond at the end of 2009 and he returned
home to Kyabram to be with his family and he played football for Kyabram in 2010.
