BIOGRAPHY
Leo was a very talented, pacy wingman or half-back who was recruited from Nhill. He played with Richmond for nearly a decade, winning the club Best and Fairest in 1942 and 1944 and running second in 1945 and 1946.
In pre-season of 1943, he trained with Melbourne as Richmond hadn't began training yet.
He was vice captain in 1946 and awarded Life Membership in 1949. He was a member of the 1943 Premiership side and the 1942 and 1944 Grand Final sides, being voted Richmond’s best player in the 1942 Grand Final. He also represented Victoria four times. After leaving Richmond, he coached Albury for three seasons and Howlong for one. Leo was the brother-in-law of former player, David Baxter and also related to former Collingwood champion, Thorold Merrett, Brisbane Bears and former Essendon player Roger Merrett and Carlton Player Glen Hawker. Leo was a wool classer and he died playing tennis in 1976.
