BIOGRAPHY
Leon Cameron played junior football with Caracumt and then with South Warnambool and was drafted by Footscray ( Bulldogs ) with pick 7 overall in the 1988 AFL National Draft. He played 172 games with the Bulldogs from 1990-1999 and won the Bulldogs Best and Fairest award , the Charles Sutton Medal in 1993. Leon was traded to Richmond at the end of the 1999 season in exchange for Richmond’s pick 37 and pick 66 in the 1999 AFL National Draft. The Bulldogs used pick 37 to draft Mitch Hahn and Pick 66 to draft Ryan Hargrave in the 1999AFL National Draft.
Leon was very welcome at Richmond as the Club felt they had assembled a competitive list and Leon would add experience and skill . Leon was also starting with new coach Danny Frawley who had just been appointed by Richmond and 2000 was to be his first year.

Tony Greenberg ( RFC Media ) in an article for the club’s web site on 19/10/2012 recalls Leon’s important contribution to the Tigers , an extract from Tony’s article follows :
“ It was a good move by the Tigers , as Cameron became one of their most valuable players over the next five seasons. In Cameron’s 2000 debut season with Richmond , he played 19 games , averaging 17.7 disposals and finishing fifth in the Jack Dyer Medal , as the Tigers improved to ninth place on the ladder. The following year , Cameron played a pivotal role in lifting Richmond into the finals. With his sheer class , in a sweeping role across half-back , he generated enormous drive for the Tiger team. He played all 25 games that season , with Richmond making it through to the Preliminary final. Cameron was rewarded for his
form that season with 11 votes in the Brownlow Medal and third placing in the Jack Dyer Medal. “

Leon played 84 games with the Tigers from 2000-2003 and despite spending most of his time in defence his brilliant penetrating kicking saw him kick 40 goals. Leon retired from AFL football at the end of 2003
