Luke McGuane , a cousin of Collingwood dual Best and Fairest winner Mick McGuane , originally played for Broadbeach on the Gold Coast . Luke was drafted by Richmond with pick 36 in the 2004 AFL National Draft . Luke, a key position player forward or back played his first senior game for Richmond in Round 7, 2006 against Sydney .
Early in May 2007 Luke was playing for Richmond’s Affiliate club Coburg against the Tasmanian Devils at Bellerive Oval , Hobart whenhe was injured . He and Devils player Mark Westfield were runningbackwards towards the goals when Mark crashed into a goalpost which snapped off at the base and landed on Luke who had run through the posts and was standing behind the square . The match was halted and Luke was taken from the ground to be treated . The game was delayed for 15 minutes with a replacement post found and installed and Luke re-joined his Coburg teammates to finish the game with a comfortable win. Luke also suffered a badly broken arm early in his career that impacted on his introduction to the senior team .
Luke played 105 games with Richmond playing as a defender and forward . Luke was a very courageous and team oriented player. Luke was de-listed by Richmond at the end of the 2013 season and he returned to Queensland to join the Brisbane Lions where he finished his career.
