BIOGRAPHY
Michael was a utility player who mainly played as a half-back or ruck-rover whilst in the VFL. He was unlucky to suffer a shoulder injury after making Richmond’s Senior team. He was a member of the Under/19’s 1980 Premiership side and in 1983 he won the Reserve’s Best and Fairest. He also captained the 1981 Schoolboy’s tour of Ireland.
After leaving Richmond in 1984, he played with West Perth and South Adelaide, before briefly returning to Richmond. He then moved to Collingwood for two seasons, Sydney Swans one season and Camberwell one season. A much travelled player, he has represented eight clubs in 10 years. In 1992, he played with Redan where he won the Ballarat League Goalkicking award. He then took up his first coaching role in 1993 and successfully led Colac to the Hampden League Premiership as well as kicking 100 goals for the season. He remained with that club in 1994 and 1995.
