BIOGRAPHY
Michael originally joined the Richmond Fourths in 1963.He played most of his junior football at Xavier and Assumption Colleges. He started his career as a key position defender before moving into the ruck. As a ruckman he was best remembered for his outstanding performances during the 1969 season and Finals’ series. He was voted Richmond’s best player in each of the club’s three Finals games in 1969. He also took 40 more marks than any other player in the VFL in 1969 and was in the top five in 1970. He had a good spring, was a strong mark and a fine tap ruckman. Because of his strong marking he was dangerous when resting in the forward-pocket. His highest individual goal tally was 5 against Carlton in Round 6 of 1973. He did not play football in 1972 due to work and family commitments; however, within 24 hours of Richmond’s loss to Carlton in the Grand Final, Graeme RICHMOND had contacted Michael and ensured his return for 1973.
