BIOGRAPHY
Neil played in defence mainly at centre-half-back. He originally started his career with Ararat before being recruited by Collingwood. Neil had two stints at Collingwood which were punctuated by stints with Burnie, one game, and Northcote, one season. He transferred to Richmond in 1983 and spent a total of four seasons at the club. He also spent one season with Footscray. He was a strong mark and a very determined player who could be relied upon to give his best. He had a terrible run of injuries, and at one stage missed almost two seasons, eventually being forced into retirement due to recurring injuries.
Away from football he was a fine cricketer who represented the Collingwood Senior XI, in Melbourne’s District Cricket Competition. He batted 86 times and scored 1645 runs with two centuries and a highest score of 141. Neil also scored six fifties and took 32 wickets. He now works as a painter.
