BIOGRAPHY
Paddy played back pocket in Richmond's first VFL Grand Final appearance (1919). A dour , unobtrusive defender he was originally recruited from Albury and came to Richmond after stints with South Melbourne, as a ruckman, and Fitzroy as a ruckman and backman.
He received a permit to Richmond on 14 May 1919 from Fitzroy. "The selectors are said to be pleased with his practice form" (Richmond Guardian 1919) "He is a resident of this part in the district scheme of things"
In 1926, The Weekly Times listed him as one of the most conspicuous players of the Ovens and Murray League during the 1907-1915 era.
He was also a member of Richmond's tug-of-war team, along with Dan Minogue, Dave Moffat, Barney Herbert, and Hughie James, which participated in Nov 1920
Abbott played in the 1939 charity match between Fitzroy and StKilda veterans, to aid the Melbourne District Nursing Society's After-Care Hospital.
