BIOGRAPHY
Paul was as centreman and half-forward. He was recruited by Richmond after his impressive form in the 1968 Australian Schoolboys’ Carnival earned him selection in the All-Australian team. He came to Richmond in 1969 and was a member of the Under/19’s Premiership team that year. A great kick, he was only 17 when he played his first full senior game against Hawthorn at VFL Park. He started that game in fine style by drop kicking a long goal. Paul moved well and showed great promise until an unfortunate leg injury cut short his career.
Paul almost covered himself in glory late in the 1970 Reserves’ Grand Final when he kicked a goal that, if allowed, would have put Richmond in front with only seconds remaining. Unfortunately, luck was against Richmond as the umpire awarded a free kick against a Richmond player for shepherding off the ball. Paul is a public servant and lives in Melbourne’s inner suburbs.
