A chronology of the Richmond Football Club on the early years of radio/wireless 1925-1929.

1925
League football matches were first broadcast in 1925 on 3AR and 3LO. Only the finals matches were broadcast. Richmond did not play in the finals.


1926
June 12
Victoria v NSW at Erskineville Oval, Sydney, by an "official of the Australian Football League" on 2FC. Allen Geddes and Basil McCormack played in this match. "For the first time in the state, the Australian game of football will be broadcast by 2FC..." (Wireless Weekly Vol 8 No.7, page 27)

July 24
Victoria vs NSW at MCG, on 3LO. Richmond's Keith Millar plays in this match

July 31

July 29
The broadcast radio result of Geelong v Richmond (July 2, Rd 10) was used as evidence in a court case regarding being on a licensed premises during prohibited hours. The defendant claimed he was on the premises after 6pm to hear the result of the game. The prosecution argued that 'Children's Hour' was broadcast between 5.30pm - 6.30pm. The defendant was given the benefit of the doubt and the case dismissed.

Arrangements were made for the match to be broadcast to spectators watching Geelong Reserves v St Kilda Reserves at Corio Oval, "so patrons who witness the match will be well catered for"

William Maybury misses his first RFC AGM after 40 consecutive years, due to illness. "Listening to a description of a match through the wireless is dry hash after one has been so actively connected with the game," he says.
