BIOGRAPHY
Ricky Petterd played Junior football for Broadbeach and was selected to play representative football for Queensland in the U/18 2006 National Championships Division 2 , winning the Harrison Medal for best player of the Championships Division 2.
Ricky was drafted by Melbourne with pick 30 overall in 2006 AFL National Draft. Ricky made his senior debut with Melbourne in
Round 5, 2007 against West Coast. Ricky had a season ending injury in Round 14 , 2007 against Carlton.
He collapsed during the game and couldn’t breathe. Two club doctors realized there was no time to send him to hospital , so they
punctured his chest wall in the change rooms , allowing air to escape from his Chest cavity, allowing his punctured lung to re-expand , effectively saving his life. Ricky subsequently had surgery to permanently repair the lung. Ricky suffered another season ending injury in May 2010 when a dislocated right shoulder required surgery.
Despite this history of injuries Ricky was drafted by Richmond with pick 7 overall in 2013 AFL Rookie Draft, and made his senior debut in Round 2, 2013 against St Kilda. After playing 12 senior games in 2013 , Ricky received a Rookie Elevation to the Richmond senior list. Ricky played 30 games with Richmond seniors between 2013-2015 including losing Elimination finals in 2014 and 2015. In September 2015 he announced his immediate retirement from AFL football.
