BIOGRAPHY
Ross was a half-forward-flanker and full-forward who was very dangerous around the goals. A lightly built player, he was not very fast, but he read the play very well. He was an opportunist who made the most of the kicks he got. He came to Richmond via Melbourne and Collingwood. He kicked the winning goal in the 1981 first semi-final from a freakish snap out of a pack, when playing for Collingwood against Fitzroy. He was a member of Collingwood’s 1979 and 1981 Grand Final sides as well as playing in their 1979 night Premiership side. Whilst at Richmond he won the VFL Reserves Competition Goalkicking award in 1983 with 72 goals. This included 9 goals against St.Kilda and Collingwood.
After two seasons at Richmond, he moved to Sandringham where he captained their 1958 Premiership side. He then moved to Waverley where he kicked 11 goals in a V.F.A semi-final against Werribee, in 1987. He works in the Banking Industry and now lives in the eastern suburbs. His son, Matthew, currently plays with VFL club Box Hill. Ross’s older brother Ian Brewer played 84 games and kicked 165 goals with Collingwood between 1956 and 1961. Ian also won the 1958 VFL Goalkicking award and was a member of Collingwood’s Premiership side.
