Sam Lloyd grew up in Deniliquin close to the New South Wales Riverina. He was a talented junior sportsman and played AFL
Football and soccer with older brother Jack . Because of the long driving involved in supporting the boys sport , Sam’s parents asked the boys to choose a sport and in typical Aussie style a flip of a coin , heads or tails , saw Sam continue with Football to the exclusion of soccer. Sam went to Geelong Grammar School in his second year of High School , and starred in the school’s football team. Sam missed U/18 Representative football through injury but latervplayed country league football with Deniliquin senior team andvkicked over 100 goals in the 2010 season and played in the club’s 2011 Premiership team. Sam played football at Mt Eliza in 2012 and eventually played VFL football at Bendigo and Frankston.

Sam was drafted by Richmond with their third pick , selection 66 overall in the 2013 AFL National Draft . He played his first senior
game with Richmond in Round 4 , 2014 against Collingwood . Sam a small forward and midfielder , despite being a consistent goalkicker , found it difficult to secure a regular place in the Tigers senior team but in the 2016 season he played 22 senior games . In Round 8 of that year he kicked his eight three goal haul and with a goal kicked after the siren won the game against the Sydney Swans. Sam played 8 senior games in 2017 and 7 senior games in 2018 . In 2017 Sam played in the Tigers VFL losing Grand Final team but won the Norm Goss Medal for the best player in the Grand Final.
