BIOGRAPHY
A Richmond supporter as a kid, Lonergan joined the club at the end of the 2012 season through the rookie draft. He showed promise in his 79 games with Essendon, but was forced to battle constant injuries. These issues would not abate after his switch to the Tigers, where he managed to play two senior games in 2013 before announcing his retirement from the AFL.
Lonergan then spent the next two seasons with South Australian club, Glenelg. As a playing assistant coach, he added another 29 games to his senior tally, before moving back to his native Tasmania to take up the senior coaching role with Launceston in the TSL.
His new tenure at his home club did not get off to the dream start however, as he was forced to sit out for the entire 2016 season due to the ruling made on the recent Essendon supplements scandal.
The full impact of his leadership was felt in 2017 however, when he made his eventual return to lead the Blues to the TSL preliminary final. They were beaten by eventual runners-up, Lauderdale.
