BIOGRAPHY
“Sel” played mainly as a full-forward. He was a consistent goal scorer who was a fine mark and very accurate left foot kick. He started his career with West Melbourne before crossing to North Melbourne in 1937, and spent a total of nine seasons with North, winning their Goalkicking award five times with his highest tally being 88 goals in 1941. He also represented Victoria on two occasions. He crossed to Richmond in 1945, where he spent just over a season. In one game for Richmond, against Carlton in Round 7 of 1945, he kicked 10 out of the team’s match total of 13 goals. He also scored 7 goals against Hawthorn in Round 5 of 1945 as well as kicking 5 goals on two other occasions. Away from football, he was a very avid horse-racing enthusiast. Sel died in 1992.
