BIOGRAPHY
Shaun Grigg was selected by Carlton with pick 19 overall in the 2006 AFL National Draft . After four years at Carlton Shaun asked for a trade with his desired destination Richmond . Carlton and Richmond arranged a straight swap with Richmond player Andrew Collins .
Shaun made his debut for Richmond in Round 1, 2011 against his former club Carlton . Shaun became a regular player in the Tigers senior team with consistent performances as tagger and midfielder displaying a strong contested football style , finishing Top 5 in the Best and Fairest in 2012 and 2016 .
Richmond senior coach Damien Hardwick in 2017 spoke of Shaun Grigg as the smartest footballer at Richmond with an ability to ‘ read a game ‘ a fraction faster than others . Shaun was the oldest regular player in the Richmond senior team in 2017.
Shaun played an unusual role for the Tigers as a second ruckman standing only 191 cm . Shaun was a prominent player in the Tigers 2017 Premiership team.
Having failed to play a match with the senior team or the VFL team because of crippling injuries in the first 7 weeks of the 2019 season on the 14 th May 2019 Shaun announced his immediate retirement from AFL football . He retired as a highly respected Premiership player , a greatly admired team player and a favourite with the Tiger supporters.
Shaun’s retirement allowed Richmond to recruit Marlon Pickett in the 2019 AFL Mid-season Draft. That’s another story.
