BIOGRAPHY
Wally was a centreman and half-forward. Recruited from Bacchus Marsh, he won the Competition Best and Fairest, in 1940, as a 17-year-old. In all, Wally spent five seasons with Richmond and was a member of the Reserve’s 1946 Premiership side. He joined Geelong in 1948 and continued with that club in 1949. In 1950, he was playing-coach of the St.Kilda Reserves. He then coached locally before moving to the country where he finally retired, from playing, with Beechworth at the age of 43. He was a Life Member of the Beechworth Football Club. He served in the R.A.A.F, for five years during World War 2. During his service, he was stationed in Canada. A bank worker, he retired as a State Bank Branch Manager. Wally died in 1981. His son, Ivan, played 13 games for Geelong Seniors in 1972 and 1973.
