Background:
The earliest incarnation of a Richmond Second Twenty side was formed on April 6 1886.
It disbanded in the middle of June 1887, but was then reformed for the 1888 season.
The next incarnation was the Richmond Junior League Football Club formed on February 27 1919, at 8pm on the Richmond Cricket Ground.
It was renamed for the 1924 season onwards as the Richmond Football Club Second Eighteen, playing in the VFL Seconds
The competition was renamed the VSFL from 1992 to 1994, then as the AFL Reserves from 1994 until 1999
For the 2000 season, Richmond fielded a standalone Reserve side in the VFL competition, and from 2001 - 2013 aligned themselves with Coburg.
Since 2014 they have reverted to a standalone Reserve side in the VFL.
